Golf enthusiasts, art lovers and those who study British history will all find ample diversion within miles of this financial and industrial hub.
Prestigious art galleries and historic homes are to be found in both Leeds proper and within a short driving distance of the city.

Tetley’s Brewery Wharf. Tetley’s has been brewing beer in the UK since 1822. Not actually a drinking establishment a tour of its visitor centre built at a cost of nearly 10 million American dollars will give insight into the art of brewing before heading off to a true pub.
Whitelocks. Licensed since 1715 this small pub offers ambience and prize winning brew.
The Angel Inn. For a good price and a good pint in an old fashioned setting with a true beer garden, this pub can’t be beaten.
Salvo’s. A Leeds favourite since it opened in 1976, this Italian restaurant boasts desserts and a robust wine list; recently named one of the UK’s Ten Best Pizza Restaurants.
Simply Heathcote’s. Located in the Granary Wharf section in a renovated grain house this moderately priced restaurant offers traditional British cooking with both a kiddie menu and a wine list.
Parisá Café Bar. Sandwiches, sides, full dishes, beer, wine, reasonable prices, casual atmosphere; what more could a weary traveller desire?

Cream City Ribbon Wall Art
Cream City Ribbon Wall Art
A blank wall is never a fun thing to look at. Framed pictures or paintings may be expensive, and it’s always such a joy to show off your own works of art to visitors and guests. If you are renovating your home, remodeling a room for a nursery, or simply thinking of innovative ways to decorate, Cream City Ribbon brings you a new project that you can accomplish with your friends, family members, or children. You may also use this technique for your scrapbook.
Mounted Cream City Ribbon Wall Art
Materials:
Cream City Ribbon of various colors and designs
Cream City Ribbon scraps
Watercolor
Paint brush for the watercolor
Brush for the glue (you may use an old eye make-up or lip brush, small enough to make lines)
2 pieces, 1/8 illustration board
Glue
Double-sided Tape
Scissors
Glitters (optional)
1. Prepare Your Mount.
Step 1. Choose a design or image outline. You may get a page from your child’s favorite coloring book, or print out an outline of an image. You may pick a cartoon character that your child loves, or choose an image that suits your home design or theme. The heavier the GSM of your paper, the better.
Step 2. Once you have this ready, you may now prepare your mount, so that later on, all you have to do is frame your Cream City Ribbon artwork. Your mount will be 4 inches larger than the paper on which your image is printed on.
Measure your illustration board. Add 4 inches to each side of your image paper. Cut your board accordingly.
Step 3. Once you have cut this board, you now need to attach a string so you can hang it on your wall later. On the top 1/3 of your board, make two sets of parallel holes. Then tie your hanging string or Cream City Ribbon through these holes.
Note that the Cream City Ribbon is very strong and can hold up this mounted artwork.
Step 4. Prepare your mount frame. Cut your second piece of illustration board, to work as a frame that you can place on top of your artwork, once it is mounted on the first illustration board. Cut your frame, using a width of 4 ½ to 5 inches each.
2. Color your Image with Cream City Ribbon.
Remember that with your Cream City Ribbon, there are a lot of possibilities. You can shred it, cut it, quill it, tie it, curl it, shape it, and so forth. Don’t be afraid to try out new things!
Step 1. Work on your artwork. Paint your image outline with watercolor. Be as creative as you can, this will serve as the base of your artwork, and the basis of your ribbon use.
Step 2. Once you are finished painting your image, you can work on your outline.
Make an embossed outline of your image. Twine a long strand of your Cream City Ribbon, and glue it onto the image outline. This way, coloring into the image will be easier, as it also serves as a border.
Step 3. Fill up the various areas with color and texture. Cut your Cream City Ribbon into very small pieces of different shapes. Using your paintbrush, spread glue into the area that you want to fill. Sprinkle and spread your Cream City Ribbon pieces into the area.
Step 4. Variation of texture, shape, style and technique is fundamental to making a unique and beautiful artwork. For another area, use a different technique. You can wet your Cream City Ribbon scraps by putting it under running water or spraying them with water. This way, your Cream City Ribbon, made with natural cotton, will shape into whatever you want.
Now that your Cream City Ribbon is more pliant, you will be able to separate the strands of cotton yarn that it was made into. Use this cotton ribbon, and glue it onto one area using the same principle used in the previous step.
Step 5. Another technique is to quill your Cream City Ribbon into the shape of the area you want to fill. Once you have done this, glue it onto the paper by spreading the glue (using the brush) on one side, and pasting it onto the paper.
Step 6. Shred your Cream City Ribbon into very thin pieces, and cut them into 1, 2, or 3 inch pieces. Spread glue on the area you want to work on, and scatter your Cream City Ribbon shredded stems on this area. This should look like scattered hay, or grass.
Step 7. Make plenty of knots on a length of your Cream City Ribbon. Place a distance of about half an inch between these knots, and cut at the center. You now have plenty of little knots to fill up an area. Glue onto paper. You can use little glue dots for this to make it neat. If you want a quicker technique, you can brush the area with glue, and just scatter the little knots onto it.
Step 8. Put curly frills on an area. The length depends on how long you want the curls or frills to be. This step is best used if your image is that of a person or character with hair. Take a piece of your Cream City Ribbon, and glue one end (about just 3 mm) to your paper. Shred the ribbon up until the glued portion.
Ask someone else to hold down the glued portion of the ribbon while you curl each strand. You may do this several times, until you fill up the whole area or head portion.
Step 9. Cut your Cream City Ribbon according to the length or width of the area you want to fill and lay them down flat. You may glue them onto the paper vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. It’s really up to what you think is best for your design. You may put glitter on top of these laid down ribbons to add texture and shimmer.
Step 10. Make variations of the various techniques discussed here to continue filling out the various areas of your image.
Be bold. You may use Cream City Ribbon that is contrasting to the watercolor you used for the area. Keep in mind that with Cream City Ribbon, you can do as you please. Make waves, make loops, make quills – whatever you like.
Step 11. LET YOUR ARTWORK DRY FOR AT LEAST 12 HOURS, OR FOR BEST RESULTS, LEAVE IT TO DRY OVERNIGHT.
3. Mount It, Frame It, Hang It.
Once your image artwork is completely dry, you may now mount it on the boards that you previously made.
Put double sided tape at the back corners of your page, and place it at the center of your illustration board. Tape the frame on top of the paper, making sure to cover the edges with the frame.
If you want it to be more secure, you may place acetate or a transparency film over your artwork. This protects it from dirt and direct sunlight. In doing this, you also prevent the artwork from getting destroyed by curious hands.
Cream City Ribbon encourages recycling and using materials that are environment friendly. Recycling is a great help to the environment, and is easy on the pocket. Make projects that are eco-friendly and wallet-friendly. Don’t throw away your Cream City Ribbon scraps. Use it for other craft projects.
Now, you can hang your piece, and let others marvel at how your Cream City Ribbon Wall Artwork was made.
Be proud of your own creation.
Be proud of how creative you are.
Be proud of how you helped the environment by using natural ribbons.

A Lakefront City
A Lakefront City
In southeastern Wisconsin on the western shore of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is roughly an hour north of Chicago by car. Wisconsin has a cold climate and Milwaukee is no exception. Winter temperatures of -60 F can occur with the frigid wind chills off turbulent Lake Michigan. But Milwaukeeans are a hardy crew and, to prove it, members of the Polar Bear Club defy arctic conditions by taking an icy swim in the lake every January 1st. Known as the beer capital of the world, Milwaukee currently boasts three major brewers including Miller, Sprecher and Lakefront breweries although others, such as Pabst and Schlitz, have come and gone. The success of Milwaukee breweries has been credited to the brewing skills and business acumen of German immigrants, many of whom were among the city’s earliest settlers. Brewery tours are an ever-popular attraction and include free beer! The Fredrick Pabst Mansion, the “Finest Flemish Renaissance Revival Mansion in America” was built by Captain Pabst in 1892 and is a testament to the success of brewing in Milwaukee. Milwaukee’s brewing history means fine beers from around the world are available in most bars and restaurants. Milwaukee also has its share of good eats. Karl Ratzsch’s Restaurant is the place for authentic and excellent German food and Coerper’s 5 o’Clock Club is a deceptively funky (but killer) steakhouse. Kopp’s Custard features awesome burgers and custard, whle the Mekong Cafe is known for outstanding Thai and Vietnamese fare. Popular tourist attractions include the Milwaukee Art Museum, Brewers Baseball, Mitchell Park Conservatory, Bucks Basketball, Milwaukee Public Museum and Planetarium, Milwaukee Country Zoo, Paradise Landing Indoor Water Park, Audubon Nature Sanctuary and the Harley-Davidson Museum. The cultural scene includes the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet, Florentine Opera, Milwaukee Opera and Skylight Opera. There are also many venues for plays, including the Sunset Playhouse. The Milwaukee River weaves through downtown Milwaukee and into Lake Michigan with charming historic bridges and waterways throughout the downtown area. Voyager and Iroquois boat tours are popular with locals and tourists alike featuring cruises around the river, harbor, marina and lake. Happy Hour cruises are especially fun, offering great views of the city. Milwaukee’s lakefront provides a miles-long recreational area including public McKinley Marina for boat docking, jet ski rental and sailing lessons. A bit north, Bradford Beach is a popular attraction with picnics areas, volleyball, in-line skating, biking, partying and musical events. Sometimes called the city of festivals, Milwaukee has Summerfest Music Festival, Festa Italiana, German Fest, Wisconsin State Fair, Irish Fest, African World Festival, Indian Summer Festival and the Lakefront Festival of the Arts. There are also the Asian Festival, Arab World Fest, Bastille Days, Holiday Folk Fair, Mexican Fiesta, Water Frolics and numerous smaller neighborhood festivals and block parties. The city has a large student population with many colleges and universities, among them The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and Marquette University, with its dental and law schools. Marquette also features the Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art and the Al McGuire Center, home of Golden Eagles Basketball. City Guide to Bradford
City Guide to Bradford
Bradford is a large northern city, with a long and documented history, and a population of almost 300,000 people.
Numerous important historical buildings and monuments, including mills and factories and one of only two World Heritage Sites in Yorkshire, make the city a first choice of many history-seekers and the city never fails to reward the effort! Bradford is also home to the most visited museum outside of London.
The vibrant cultural life in Bradford, and award-winning restaurants, make the city an ideal destination for a relaxing evening out or weekend away; but the city also boasts a lively nightlife and music scene for those seeking entertainment a little more adventurous!
Like many other areas in the region, millions of pounds are pouring in for regeneration and the city offers an exciting up-and-coming feel.
History
Bradford was granted city status at the end of the nineteenth century, but its history is documented back to the thirteenth century. Bradford formed an important manufacturing area during the Industrial Revolution, but suffered the collapse of the manufacturing industry during the twentieth century. There have been signs of improvement over the last twenty years, but the rate of unemployment remains below the national average.
The National Media Museum is the most visited museum outside of London, exploring developments in photography, film and television, and housing the largest cinema screen in the world.
The Industrial Museum is based in an eighteenth century mill, and houses artefacts exploring the area’s manufacturing past.
The nineteenth century village of Saltaire was built to house the local mill workforce, and is one of only two World Heritage Sites in Yorkshire.
Art Galleries
Bradford has numerous galleries including Cartwright Hall with comprises four separate galleries, displaying British works of art from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and a selection of South Asian arts and crafts.
Salts Mill is a shopping and arts complex, located in a converted Victorian mill in the village of Saltaire. There are four galleries in the complex, including David Hockney Gallery, a gallery exploring the area’s heritage and a third displaying operatic costumes and masks.
The Manor House, in Ilkley, and the Arts Centre, in Bingley, host a range of temporary exhibitions.
Theatres
The Alhambra Theatre is Bradford’s sole large-scale theatre, and housed in an impressive Victorian building. The theatre regularly hosts large-scale touring productions, including West End plays and performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The Alhambra Studio is located next door, and stages small-scale performances.
The Bradford Theatre-in-the-Mill is adjacent to the university campus, and offers small-scale productions, and drama and technical workshops.
Theatres specialising in musicals and concerts include St George’s Hall, The Tamsin Little Music Centre and The Little Priestley.
Restaurants
Amongst Bradford’s award-winning restaurants is Weaver’s. The restaurant comes highly recommended by Good Food Guide, AA, Michelin and Hardens, and serves traditional and contemporary British cuisine.
Bradford’s ‘Curry Mile’ is home to more than twenty Indian and Asian-influenced restaurants, of which, The Kashmir is widely regarded as the best by customers, and Mumtaz Paan House is recommended by Good Food Guide. Kipling’s Indian restaurant was awarded the ‘Best in Britain Award’ by a customer vote.
Chino Thai serves Chinese and Thai dishes in an up-market environment, and offers seating for 100 people.
Pubs/Bars
CAMRA recommends numerous Bradford pubs in the city, and named The Junction ‘Pub of the Year’ in 2006. Other contenders were Haigy’s and Fighting Cock.
Brewery Tap is a rock pub that presents live acts two or three times each week, offers a free jukebox and various drinks offers. Bradford’s longest serving music venue also comprises a poolroom and beer garden.
Fubar is a cocktail bar and tapas restaurant, boasting a vast selection of cocktails, wines, liqueurs and beers, with a chic and stylish interior that belie its low prices.
The Sun Hotel is one of Bradford’s most popular gay bars, and features regular DJs, drag acts and pub quizzes. There is a lounge area, pool and games room, secluded beer garden and rooms to rent upstairs.
Nightclubs
Rio is a rock club and live music venue, one of many Bradford nightclubs, open three nights a week and presenting a selection from 80s and punk to indie and goth. Admission is free before 9:30pm and drinks are cheap.

Lingards is a house, speed garage and techno complex, comprising a pre-club bar, Ascension nightclub and Subterranea nightclub. There are club nights at the complex twice a week.
The Love Apple is another complex; this one comprising a cafe, bar, nightclub and art exhibition space. The club specialises in non-mainstream music, and hosts live music performances.
Shopping
The Kirkgate Shopping Centre is home to 65 shops and a large market on its top floor. There are 550 parking spaces, and the centre is easily accessible in the city centre. It is open every day.
The Oastler Shopping Centre is a market in the city centre, comprising 80 stalls and shops and trading in fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. There are also cafes and markets. St James Wholesale Market is located out of the city centre, and is the place to find exotic food produce.

The city university offers an impressive range of sporting facilities over three venues. The Sports Centre houses most of the facilities, the Laisteridge Lane site is home to squash, football and hockey courts/pitches, and the Woodhall Sports Ground provides sites for football, rugby and cricket.
There are forty golf courses in Bradford; including Queensbury Golf Club, an 18-hole course with a lounge and bar on-site.

London and 3D Visualisation – A Fast-Paced Technology in a Fast-Paced City
London and 3D Visualisation – A Fast-Paced Technology in a Fast-Paced City
The fast-changing field of computer graphics is used by a wide variety of different industries to promote diverse products. Most recently, these have been using the latest developments in the long history of the technology, 3D visualisation. London has plenty of companies specialising in 3D visualisation, whether in particular fields or developing a versatile service with expertise in several different areas. 3D visualisation can be used to showcase images as diverse as an architects’ masterpiece, a smoothie packet, or a BMW. However, architecture work and interior imaging are especially likely to use 3D visualisation, to give a clear picture of a large-scale scene. Working in 3D, images which would usually be flat and dull can jump out at a client’s audience, through a large or small screen.
The science of visualisation, allowing ideas to be conveyed by representative images, is a very old one. It’s typically been achieved through illustration, and gradually innovations have been developed to make the eye understand a reproduced image as well as one in front of it. Since da Vinci, artists have used a variety of techniques â including central perspective, and cartography techniques â in order to produce a realistic image. Nowadays, science is moving much faster to quickly develop computer graphics, in order to produce a virtual reality often more perfect and beautiful than the product as seen through normal regard. Visualisation works through animated images, computer created CGI images, and more recently, 3D effects, which allow a fully rounded image to be seen on a flat screen. The links between these modern computerised techniques and older illustrative innovations has been outlined by Edward Tufte in two critically acclaimed books.
For a long time, computer graphics visualisation was used to study scientific problems, and for educational purposes. It’s been used in all kinds of high-tech environments, and showcased in various conferences and special publications. Now, however, 3D visualisation can be accessed by any client, for websites which look both aesthetically pleasing and professionally cutting-edge. Within the sciences and educational purposes, 3D visualisation has often been used to visualise an abstract concept, but for showcasing products, the idea is to highlight the superior quality of the product itself. Computerised product visualisation has replaced old-fashioned technical drawing. Although 3D CGI can of course be used to generate animations which help to advertise a product, and which do not represent actual products, it is also used to create engaging and dramatic images of new products.
For 3D visualisation, London is a city with a particularly high density of service providers. This is due partly to the high media and digital development within the city, and also because, like 3D visualisation itself, London is involved in a wide variety of industries, and has been the centre for technological developments through the ages.
For 3D visualisation, London is a city full of clients and opportunities, too. Since the days of Christopher Wren or Isambard Kingdom Brunel, architecture has continued to be an active industry in London, meaning that plenty of visualisation services have developed in the capital. The presence of the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA) has helped to ensure that London continues to be a buzzing capital for architecture, and so for architecture visualisation. Additionally, the high-flying offices of the Square Mile demand quality visualisation services for their websites. Various other industries, of course, are also based in London, and many are turning to the exciting new technology to promote their work. In addition, and perhaps most importantly London’s long history of involvement with media, running from the famous Fleet Street newspapers, means that it will always be the natural gravitation point for new communication developments.
Some companies outsource their work to other countries (such as China), looking outside the EU to produce product images using 3D visualisation. London-based workers, however, have the advantage of experience within the city’s industries, as well as being on-spot for emergency deadlines and changing demands.
